Welcome to Russ Campbell's Blog

Somewhere in Paradise

Welcome to this latest version of Russ Campbell’s Blog, a journal of my family history plus a bit of this and a bit of that. This new version will, of course, mark a significant departure from my decade or so of commentaries on social and political issues and events, which made up the bulk of the content of the former version of this Website.

I started researching my family roots in the late 1990s when the Internet was in its infancy. Since then, I have augmented my research with that of several other friends and family members to the point where I have a pretty good understanding of who my people were, and from whence they came.

More recently, however, I decided to dig more deeply into my family’s distant past by having my paternal (Y) DNA tested. My hope is to find out to which of the many ancient Campbell family lines I belong—or for that matter, whether I am indeed a “true” Campbell.

These pages are the repository of my efforts to date, with narratives, images and charts documenting the results. Some of these data—especially information about living persons—are stored in PDF documents that are protected by passwords, but a lot more information is open for all to see. A significant amount of these data is, of course, protected by copyright, and I hope visitors will respect that and keep it in mind when using this Website.

Those who would like to access protected family charts, etc., can contact me and explain your interest and your connection to the family. Permission to access the data will not be unreasonably withheld, though I reserve the right to refuse consent without giving a reason.

As one might expect, family research is a work in process and documenting it is no less so. I plan on summarizing my current notes into coherent essays and charts and then posting them on this Website as I proceed. I expect this to take several months, so I invite you to check back from time to time to see my progress.
